According to SAMHSA's newest press release, emergency room visits for underage drinkers on and around the 4th of July holiday are almost 90% higher than on any other average day in July. SAMHSA statistics have hospital visits on any other normal day in July at 502 and on the 4th of July Weekend ER visits soar to 938!
SAMHSA Administrator Pamela S. Hyde, J.D.says, "Underage drinking is not a harmless right of passage. It has far-reaching consequences. In addition to emergency department visits, injuries, arrests and embarrassment, 5,000 deaths in people under age 21 are linked to alcohol each year."
