School Van Driver Smelling of Alcohol Arrested before Picking up School Children

Pittsburgh's KDKA recently reported that an A.J. Myers and Sons bus company driver was recently arrested for intoxication prior to making his run to pick up Woodland Hills School District students.   The driver stopped into Bishop’s Pizza in Turtle Creek, PA reeking of booze and re sponsible employees of the shop called police to report him when they realized that he was a school bus driver.   Wilkins Township Police Officer Jon Sherman said, “They reported that a van driver, a school van driver, came into their business and he smelled of alcohol."   The police took the driver to the hospital for an alcohol blood test and pending the results the driver could be facing DUI and other charges as well as possible recklessly endangerment. The Office of National Drug Control Policy claims that drugs and alcohol cost taxpayers more than $300 billion annually in preventable health care costs, extra law enforcement, auto crashes, crime and lost job productivity. Pittsburgh Drug Testing Argument Continues For Fire Fighters and City Safety Officials

Pittsburgh Drug Testing for Firefighters has hit another impasse as the city of Pittsburgh and the Firefighters Union can not find middle ground. Funding for the drug testing and further legal issues are delaying the implementation of a Pittsburgh Drug Testing program. Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl has exclaimed, "Enough is enough in the fire department... These individuals have it seems like almost weekly been involved in drug activity and alcohol activity... The union has dragged their feet, to be quite honest with you, in coming to this agreement." Joe King, President of the Firefighters Union, International Association of Firefighters Local 1 recently was quoted in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, "Now they tell me, well, we don't have the money to do the testing of everybody right now." Public Safety Director Michael Huss said, "testing all 630-some firefighters could take more than a month, but the city is prepared to do it, and then to implement rand...

South Dakota Women's Blood Alcohol Content Breaks State Record!

A South Dakota driver was found earlier this month passed out behind the wheel of a delivery truck. Police found Marguerite Engle slouched over and smelling of alcohol. When Engle was tested her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was .708 which was almost 9 times the state's legal limit of .08! To add insult to injury, the truck Ms. Engle was driving happened to be stolen! Ms. Engle was arrested, hospitalized and then released on bond. State’s Attorney Jesse Sondreal speculated that the .708 BAC might be the highest ever recorded in South Dakota! Sondreal noted that a blood-alcohol level of .40 is considered a lethal dose for about 50 percent of the population. "Per Se" Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Level - Most states have DUI laws that deem "per se intoxicated" any driver with a blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) at or above .08 percent. This means that drivers with a BAC at or above .08 are intoxicated in the eyes of the law, and no additional proof of dr...

Pennsylvania State Police Nab Over 16,000 For Drunk Driving in 2008

The PA State Police recently issued a press release that announced the arrest of 16,156 people for driving under the influence (DUI) last year. The number of 2008 arrests was 3% higher than 2007. Commissioner Frank E. Pawlowski stated that "the number of alcohol-related crashes investigated by state police dropped 3 percent last year to 4,665, while the number of fatalities resulting from those crashes dropped 9 percent from 165 to 150." The PA State police credit Operation Nighthawk for their successful DUI campaign. The Operation provides troopers and municipal police with focused class room training resulting in immediate on the job patrols to identify and arrest operators who are operating under the influence. The PA State Police conducted two Operation Nighthawk sessions in 2008 and will do two or three in 2009. The Office of National Drug Control Policy claims that drugs and alcohol cost taxpayers more than $300 billion annually in preventable health care costs, extr...
